3D MOUSE
A secondary navigator mouse with joystick and knob to make my Rhino and Photoshop workflow a little easy.

Functions
Joystick - controls left/right/up/down panning in both Rhino and Photoshop
Knob - controls 3D rotation in Rhino and brush size in Photoshop
Switch - a tiny ergonomically placed slide switch toggles between Rhino and Photoshop modes
Tools
Arduino MKR ZERO
3D SLA printing

What other sensors could I combine and what kind of interactions and affordances would it give rise to?
I decided to have more fun with this idea of nested input hardware. Shown below are some mock-ups for ideas to prototype in the future.

In this case, the slider controls brush size and the knob controls the feather or brush hardness. By moving both together you can seamlessly control both the properties at once resulting in interesting creative possibilities.

In this case, the slider pans through the components left and right and the knob allows you to zoom in and out. What if you can do both together? could it control a seamless interface without any clicks?

What if you combine a touch sensor like a capacitive pad with a multi-faceted knob? By touching the opposing sides you trigger different functions. Could this de-clutter an automotive interface while maintaining tactility?
PROCESS
I bought a tin container from the container store. After meticulously taking the exact dimensions of the container I built it in Rhino and started designing my components around it. I also started out by making block diagrams of the hardware viz. Arduino MKR Zero, a rotary encoder, and a 2-axis joystick.
