SoundCatch is an environmental audio sampler right on your wrist. It's a simple Apple watch app that records 5 sec. sounds and stores in your folder of choice.
Background
Weekend project
I wanted to explore UX/UI design for the apple watch. I don't own an apple watch and hence had to do a lot of research online to understand the OS and design constraints. I spent a lot of time going through the HMI guidelines provided by Apple. I saw numerous projects centered around fitness applications and wanted to explore something different. I decided to prototype a simple audio sampler app.
Tools : Adobe XD, PS, AFX

PROJECT BRIEF
The apple watch app is intended to work with an iPhone app. The phone app will handle all the major functions related to creating profiles and and more detailed editing and labeling tools. the watch app is designed to be simple and effective that can get the job done in a few seconds. Additionally the app is designed to be used with as little clicks as possible. The visual language had to be contemporary and easy to read in bright day light conditions.

EXPLORATION
After I had the flow worked out I jumped into XD to do some mockups.  At this stage I was exploring different layouts and fine tuning micro interactions. Design for the watch is a challenge in itself. It takes a while to get accustomed to the proportions. I kept checking periodically to make sure text and visual elements were legible at that size.
SCALE
The UI was split into a grid based on the golden ration. Much like the Apple watch's home screen the item in the center of the screen was magnified. This was the active item that you interact with. The grid then splits into smaller elements showing very minimum secondary information.
VISUAL DESIGN
Blue was used consistently throughout the UI as a visual metaphor to symbolize the captured sound. As the user goes through the menus it works as a subtle indicator of progress and feedback
